PERFORMER + NATIVE INSTRUMENTS KORE 2 PLAYER
Note: the Kore product range has been discontinued by NI. More info here.
Kore 2 and the freeKore 2 Player offer a great way to explore sounds with PERFORMER.
Here’s the set-up for Kore 2 / Kore 2 Player:
- If not installed already, install an OSC to MIDI translator (see here for options)
- If you’re using OSCulator, open the kp_osculator.oscd preset. If you’re using PureData, open the standard kp_basic.pd patch.
- Launch Kore 2 / Kore 2 Player
- In Kore’s File Menu go to Audio and MIDI Settings… -> MIDI tab -> Inputs and ensure that the input from your OSC to MIDI converter (OSCulator/MidiYoke/IAC Driver) is set to “On”

- From the Kore browser choose and load the sound you want to play
- The final step is to map Kore’s macro knobs to specific MIDI CC values so that they’re ready-mapped for PERFORMER. Kore 2 and Kore 2 Player handle MIDI mapping in slightly different ways:
- Kore 2
Open KORE Preferences -> Hardware -> MIDI Controller and assign the macro knobs as shown below:

- Kore 2 Player
Click the Control button, and then on each macro knob and choose the CC value. In this example, the MIDI CC value 22 is selected for macro knob 4:

Assign the macro knobs as follows:- Macro knob 1 – MIDI CC 11
- Macro knob 2 – MIDI CC 12
- Macro knob 3 – MIDI CC 21
- Macro knob 4 – MIDI CC 22
- Macro knob 5 – MIDI CC 31
- Macro knob 6 – MIDI CC 32
- Macro knob 7 – MIDI CC 41
- Macro knob 8 – MIDI CC 42
- Kore 2
- Done! Now the four nodes on PERFORMER will control all 8 Kore macro knobs.
Some hints for Kore 2 playing:
- In PERFORMER, touching the object centre will trigger note a note / sound start in Kore 2
- Pitchbend effect can be achieved by enabling the ribbon in PERFORMER’s preferences. Alternatively, the ribbon can be used for polyphonic note playing using the kp_osculator_polyribbon.oscd OSCulator preset.
